I have this kayak setup for fishing. I don't have pics of it fully rigged, but I will try to post it later. I have two scotty rocket launchers behind both seats, a fish finder and recently added a bait tank that rest behind the back seat. It's not the nicest looking setup, but it works for me.

what did use for a bait tank? Its awkward for a bait tank back there since its not flat and it curves.

Having the bait tank sit inside a milk crate provided support and a means to attach it to the kayak. My concern was that I would become top heavy once the bait tank filled up with water, but it did not affect the the stability of the kayak. The bait tank did not move at all when it filled up. I'm happy with this set up. I hope it helps.

There's no way having a tank that high won't affect stability.

Not true. You can always have it floating next to the kayak 😆.
Yes just had to chime in. But you are correct. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Are those Bungy chords? Don't roll that thing or say bye bye to your tank. Not trying to knock your craftsmanship, just speaking from experience. The way you have that tank supported, the angles the straps are at plus the weight of a full tank. It's not if, is WHEN that setup will fail. First off your support should PULL in opposite directions AWAY from the center of the crate. Also Bungy chords are stretchy. If the weight of the tank shifts you're done. If the cords are stretched to the point that they are tight that means they are at their weakest point and can fail.

Glad you posted pics, maybe fellow BWE guys can help you out a bit as well.
While you haven't had a problem yet, it's only a matter of time in my opinion. It can happen with a tank even lower than that. There was a guy on his hobie outback two weeks ago that flipped his yak in the harbor the first time he took it out with a new hobie tank on the back. He was pretty mad and was blaming the tank. All it takes is for that thing to shift a bit to one side or the other, which I'd be concerned about like Will noted with that bungie setup. There's gotta be a better way.

Thats how you take it out solo ? you will be sitting way far back. I was thinkg of a setup in the second seat area. If im going fishing double with my daughter I just use frozen chovies and plastics. Intresting setup thanks for the pics.
