Most of the perch caught in so cal waters are barred surf perch. They can be caught at pretty much any sandy bottomed beach around here. A quick and easy way to rig up is a carolina rigged 1 3/4", motor oil colored grub. Slow and steady retrieve with light tackle and you are sure to get a few.

I like OB from the pier north to dog beach, barred perch and halibut.
