Been a long time since I have been to Dana Point. Looking to go out of the boat ramp, which I have not done before. What's the scoop? $10, smooth bills I got. What's the bait situation & cost? It costs $10 to do the boat launch. Machine takes $5 and $10 bills.

Bait is $10 for a kayak scoop, plus a tip. Right now the bait is a mix of everything (50% chovies, the other 50% is a mix of greenbacks, sardines and Spanish). Bait is very cured and healthy.

If you want to skip a scoop, there is also a good amount of bait to be made inside and outside the harbor. Good size smelt around the bait dock, and nice greenbacks and Spanish north of the harbor near the kelp.

If I were going out, I'd head out to the pipe, or North toward the headlands. Pipe is easy to find right now, due to all the buoys. I got about a 30lber in about 70 feet earlier this week on a greenback, so the fish are out there.
