Lake Castaic Honoring Veterans

..........and their families, I was surprised that because my Dad is retired ARMY, I got in for free today and was told that this is happening all week. Veterans and family members fish for free. Normally $11 +$7 to launch. I talked to another kayak fisherman who was a veteran and he said he was just charged the $7, so they may have made an error with my free launch. Call if you want to verify before going. I would assume this is through Saturday (661) 775-6232

They did just plant trout today, saved me from getting skunked as I hucked the big baits por nada until the trout truck showed up at noon.

There are some good fish in that lake, the launch area lights up when the plants take place, nothing like a free easy meal for the hungry jailbirds.

I had an urgent 4 pm appointment back in Huntington, so I had to leave by 2pm. It was hard to leave knowing they had just dumped 2000 pounds of trout. I would have stayed until closing if I could have. My one fish was classic surface iron YT style. Saw 2 gulls get excited above a little trout skittering across the water. Cast right in front of it and 2 cranks and BENDO, loved it. Had one other fish a few cast later right in front of the docks, but it came unbuttoned. Checked the time and had to bail.

I stuck with throwing the big baits all morning without seeing a single boil, Triple Trout and BBZ and worked on the popper technique. Saw some bait soakers get fish from the shore and heard hoots from the dam, there were about 60 people fishing there.

I have had pretty good luck in the past trolling umbrella rigs, color depending on pressure and conditions. Keep it up!
