Catching Lingcod?

Has anyone ever caught Lingcod out at La Jolla? I never hear of anyone, but I'm sure someone has. I wouldn't mind getting out there targeting them sometime. I know they're bottom fish. Are they seasonal, year round, are they in the kelp? What's the skinny on these fish, if you have any knowledge you don't mind sharing?

For lingcod, go NORTH young man, your success rate will make it worth your time.

Bounce a mega bait off the bottom near a reef and you'll increase your odds

Their numbers seem healthy this fall - we've caught at least one each time we targeted rockfish in standard LJ rockfish grounds, less than 200ft.
They like bigger bait, they'll hit bigger jig too. They don't mind squid neither.
You will find them in some spots in the kelp as well, but it's pain in the arse to fish for them there.

I've caught a couple my last few outings and had one come off that grabbed onto a rockfish. They are there, it's just takes patience to hook up with one.
