Apparently, they just die down here and wash up onto beaches. They should head up to Alaska, where they belong.

eventually they'll probably live down here at least half the year. the 7 gills, a northern and central california species have taken up residence in huge number in socal and there's more brown smooth hounds showing up as well. There will probably be more/bigger lings down that way too.

i love your pics of the Beach goers, gathering around, to eyeball the sharks caught by surf fishermen !!!
i haven't been surf fishing in several years now. but used to go a fair amount in Torrey Pines & Del Mar areas. EVERYTIME you land a shark of at least 2 to 3 ft length, or especially bigger, the crowds ALWAYS accumulate. and most comical to me, is the way so many moms, immed make their kids get out of the water & stop swimming. .
