want to buy-- navionics or fishing hot spots
finally picked up a long overdue fishfinder (mark 4).. And would like to find chart maps for it.. Checked out prices and way to much for me as I'm just starting out... would like to ask members out there if anyone has one they want to part with.. If I can't find one, will just download navionics app which I think does the same thing but on a phone (could be wrong). And correct me if I'm wrong, they are suppose to have coordinates for certain known areas to fish.. thanks all! |

I use the the one on my iPhone and love it. The only problem is if you don't have a 4g with perfect coverage, your going to be way off your mark. The GPS sux on the phones. Even with 4g, it's only going to put you within 50-100yds. Leaving you looking around for a while.

http://www.basspro.com/Navionics-Gol...duct/10204795/ at $199.99 with tax you're looking at paying about $40 per month. That's easier to handle than $200 all at once.

that's my concern as well.. And I worry about draining battery. I love the fact you can be on a boat and mark spots for hour next trip (did I say that out loud).. But prefer the ease of having it integrated into the ff, and being able to set course to spots I'm heading to.. The maps look so cool and should make picking areas to fish easier..
btw, I dropped my cell into my bait tank last time out and lets just say the idea of leaving it out again is not appealing.. And it was a brand new phone that is dead now.. Quote:

thanks Jimmy.. I love bps, but I picked up a new mark 4 for under 100 so not sure spending 200 makes much sense at the moment.. If I upgrade to the elite 4 or 5, I would definitly pick it up..
right now I am fishing a few placea, but soon would like to fish up and down the coast and the card would be a valuable tool especially up north on the coast where I camp a lot.. Quote:

Does not look like it by the screen shot on the Lowrance website (of coincidentally the San Diego area).

I got an app on my iphone that has the MPA's. FishAlerts is the name. Take a look it was free and I said what the heck. Have not played with it much but I looked at the MPA map & it looked accurate.
You could always go the old school way and get the DFG Book that has all of them listed with pictures and all. Got mine at the Fred Hall show last year. |
