Tough one Jim. I always use a secondary line tied right to my brass seat clip. Halibut seem to be like Catfish, you can bleed them and then stick them in your lap/hatch and a half hour later they go nuts.

.45 to the head usually works. 2 to make sure. Over the water is preferred.
