Tough one Jim. I always use a secondary line tied right to my brass seat clip. Halibut seem to be like Catfish, you can bleed them and then stick them in your lap/hatch and a half hour later they go nuts.

bleed em, rip their gills out, beat them with a club... it doesn't matter, certain Halibut will just wake up and go flipping nuts no matter what! Greg is right 2 clips or rope or whatever securely fastened to the kayak is your only chance, and even then... chit happens "you got FulRacked" now that's funny!

I learned along time ago if your going to rip the gills snap the neck spine while your at it.
That'll stop him from thrashing any further! FFY btw: losing a game clip with the cleat really sucks.

How many fish you hang in the ocean? Really? I'm curious. I would think you would get mugged by the dogs. Sorry bout your clip.

I think that hanging a fish over the side is a pretty common thing. If I do see active dogs, I might pull the meat on deck for a while.

LJ's Sea Lions don't mess with ANY Blue Hobie Revolutions...its one reason so many that color are purchased...you all can thank me for that... Reasons to hang fish: get hot fish off of your expensive gear and FF (Tony's/Fulrac recommendation) clear gear, wash off blood, re-rig, drop back down for #2 Take photo (this is where I was at in the process)Drain kidneys...I know some who pee on their fish and then invite their friends over for "fresh" brined sashimi...
