I fish off of Avila Beach and Shell Beach. It can be pretty good. I went last week and caught 2 ling cod and 8-9 black and brown rock fish. The CCKA site has a lot of great local info. The halibut should be coming in the bay soon. Post a hook up on CCKA and someone is likely to meet up with you.
There are sharks, and there have been some bumps off the kayak. Off of Shell and Avila there are more large nurse sharks than great whites, but that one gal was killed off the university pier. I have been using a shark shield when I go out, an expensive bit of piece of mind. I used to fish a lot up north around Eureka, but this area does feel sharky. ![]() What I kept for dinner. ![]() |
