Yes, I've read that the scupper type can damage the scupper, I'm not sure if this is still the case. Additionally, the scupper type wheels are pretty hard to put on and take off, more so when your kayak is loaded with all your gear.
I used one of those carts that have the dolly wheels for a few years, the day that I first used my wheelies carts in the sand I kicked myself in the arse for not buying one years ago........save yourself the heartache and get the big wheels. I, along with many others, will guarantee you that you will not regret it. I got a really good deal on mine, $75 for the big wheels.
