DP 3/30
Started fishing the kelp didnt get much. Headed a bit off the kelp and saw a fellow yak fisherman and he was kind enough to give me some great tips. Thanks Wayne! It was great to meet you. With Wayne's tips I was able to get a 19" sand bass. Wind began picking up so I headed back towards the harbor and was fishing some of the kelp near the harbor and was lucky enough to hook my first legal Hali at 27". Both fish were caught on big hammers. All in all a great day. Sorry about the side ways picture. My friend wasn't the best camera man. |

Way to go w/ that nice hali & bass. Yum! I tried fishing w/ 2 rods this week- one live sardine & one swimbait. Got multiple bites and 2 nice sized sandies on swimbait and zero bites on live bait. You never know...
Thanks for posting. |

Great job 27" halibut are good eaters.
I'm a bit jealous- 3 trips to Dana in a row for me with no decent fish to show for it. My wife must wonder if I'm really out there fishing |

Better luck than I had to the south...
Bait - 11 inch sardines. Water - cool, green and dirty. Wind - fairly strong, 1-2' wind chop. Catch - one short Calico and one Leopard shark.

Sand bass was on a red calico hunter and the hali was on redrum. The hali completely inhaled the BH, I've had hali bites leave the tell tail teeth marks on the BH tail, but first full on hit.
Dana has been rather hit or miss for me, but it's so close it just makes life easy. One good thing is the past few weekends I've been out things have been picking up a bit, so hopefully that trend continues. I'll most likely be out there again this Sat., hope to see you out there. (I'll be the one mindlessly peddling around a red hobie ) |
