There are many great surface iron rods out there; I had the befor mentioned calstar 90J with an old Newell 338. That was my go to until it got stollen. I'm using a seeker ulua 93H with a daiwa SL40HV now. Its a huge rod and took some getting used to but I love it now. Old school long rods were designed to fish from large party boats. Casting a 100J or ulua while sitting in a kayak can be bit awkward. If you have a buddy with a surface iron stick ask to use it and see if you like the feel. Mike
