These things are master swimmers in the water, if you fall in what's to say the Sea lion isn't going to come back and take a bite out of you. I take a knife with me all the time. I don't know any fisherman that doesn't carry a knife.

A knife is a essential safety tool for any fisherman or a kayaker. What happens if you flip in the kelp and get tangled up in some kelp below the water without a knife, or a mishap with spectra or rope. I carry a knife for safety reasons and I would encourage everyone else to also, especially while hoop netting
