02/01/13 Yellow Fever

Hit the beach at 0600, and what a nice morning it was! There were at least 4-5 other cars already there. Low tide and lake conditions at the launch.
We made our way to the grounds to look for some squirts, had some fresh dead just in case. After a few hours with no luck finding bait, a large school of fin bait came through around 0800. Perfect size mini macks and dines!
As I was making bait had a large whale breach about 15-20ft next to me, pooped myself a little when I could make out the sillhouette under me as I struggled to give it the right of way, then it breached again another 20ft away!
I've lived by the ocean my whole life and it never ceases to amazing me...

At approximatley 0930-1000 it was on! The school was hungry, in a matter of minutes a few yakers and boats hooked up. Wade was next to me and watched him get slammed then taken for a sleigh ride. I had just put a fresh mini mack on the dropper loops and sent it down a few cranks off the bottom. Within a minute I felt the chew got a solid hook set and off I went on my sleigh ride!
My first yellowtail from a kayak! Stoked!

Just as quick as they came, the school was gone.
Invited my new friend to have sushi and watch the superbowl!

Happy catching everyone.

Big time congrats on your first!

Chunky fish for the maiden one

I'll quote one of the LJ old-timers - "cathing these big yellows never gets old"!

To many more to come

"The Christening of the O.S. #5."

FIRST BLOOD!

Way to Go Zac!!!!!! BIG Congrats for popping that off your target list.
You really horsed in that girl in record time!
Flatties Round Two..

Picked up my brand new 2013 PA 12 @ Oceanside Dive & Kayak just the other day, where Rik made sure to pick me a PA with some serious Juju. I quickly made another batch of custom wooden side boards and the clear coat barely dried in time for Zac's trip.
No Dom was necessary, as i cracked open a prime vintage 2002 Seriola to pour her spirits all over my sparkling polyethylene.

Headed out with Zac, as he wanted to descended upon the reefs for some local Yellowtail action for his Superbowl fiesta. I had asked my plastic partner in crime to meet up an hour earlier than I originally expected, so we would be well prepared canvassing the area. The Crown Jewel didn't disappoint, as we were soon spooled several times into the abyss. Being entered into several tournaments at the same time proved to be a little bit challenging to juggle this day. We decked the two beasts in record time, and therefore I was only alloted three Halibut drifts before heading in for ice as we ended our glorious day with a Kayak first for Zac & a solid 'Opening Day' first submission for Kayak Wars for myself & Team SD REEF RIDERS!..

RUN IT NORTH COUNTY!

Like the custom boards, do they just provide more support?

How do you like the PA 12 compared to the 14? I bought a 12 last summer when they first came out and I really like it.
