Trident vs Prowler T Angler

Specs look identical. Anyone know what's the difference besides the price?

I did some more 'googling' and it looks like it's just the rod pod cover and the seat. An aftermarket set would equalize things and I'm fine with either rod pod cover. Also Prowler T can be had at big box retailers (Cabellas, Sport Chalet, etc) and Trident is just at 'real' Kayak shops.

Looks like they have done a little revamping of the names on their yaks, and the available options. I only see the Angler models (flushmount rodholders) available for either model. The Prowler T is also a Trident, or at least it used to be. The Ultra model has quite a few fancy upgrades over the prowler. The molded carry handles are better for preventing snags. I believe they all come with a rudder standard, which can be very usefull paddling in crosswinds. A larger bait tank well in the rear. A couple extra flushmount rod holders. And both hatches are different. The front one should be easier to access the inside of. The flip hatch of the Ultra should be better for your FF on surf launches (provided that your FF fits).

Ultra 4.7

If you are talking about the Ocean Kayak Ultra 4.7...It's a FAST yak. It's pretty Fishy too.
I've had a demo for the last few weeks and it paddles really fast. It has a new hull design that picks up and goes. it's also a thinner layup of plastic so it's lighter.
The middle hatch is a cool flip design incorporating the fish finder and the hull has a spot for the Humminbird transducer, including the side image version.
It has a big tank well and yes a rudder is standard, as it should be on a boat this length.
The molded handles are cool, as is the flush mount pole holders.
If you are in the Redondo area let me know, and maybe I can arrange a test paddle.

I wasn't talking about the Ultra 4.7... which is sweet.

I was comparing the Trident 15 to the Prowler T15. They do seem to identical except for the seat and the rod pod cover.

Not sure, but you may be talking about the same kayak from different model years. According to their website, the only Trident is the Ultra. Although, the Prowler T has been traditionally called the Trident since they developed the Rod Pod and Sonar Shield. Before that it was just the Prowler. The newest Rod Pod cover has only been around since the 2011 models were produced. The old cover was basically flat, with a molded in cup holder. If that is what you are seeing as the Trident, then it may be the same model with a different seat also?

The Trident 15 Angler:
  • LENGTH: 15' 7.5" | 4.8 m
  • WIDTH: 29" | 73.7 cm
  • WEIGHT: 60 lbs | 27.2 kg
  • SEAT WIDTH: 17" | 43.2 cm
  • LEG LENGTH: 51" | 129.5 cm
  • BOW HATCH: 20" x 11.375" | 50.8 x 28.9 cm

The Trident Ultra 4.7:

  • WEIGHT: 77 lbs | 34.9 kg
  • MAX CAPACITY: 400-450 lbs | 181.4-204.1 kg
  • SUGGESTED RETAIL: $1,749.99 USD

So,
It looks like the Prowler 15T Angler and the Trident 15 Angler are the same kayak hull with different seats and rod pod covers.

And the Trident Ultra 4.7 is a completely redesigned hull with a bunch of cool innovations.

I have had a Trident 15 (now called the Prowler 15T above) since they first came out in 2007. It is an awesome kayak, if I was buying a new kayak I would look into the Ultra 4.7.

For now the Trident sits, only to be used on those bigger surf launch days.
I've got one of those Hobie PAs now and lets just say... I don't miss the paddle nearly as much as I thought I would.

I stand corrected. I don't know why I could not see the Trident 15 Angler model on their web page before? I have both of the top 2 models, and both are stamped Trident? Apparently Trident means something different now.
