One Squirt 9/11

Got on the water at 3 am to do some calico fishing, as it seems whenever I'm out super early, I always seem to nab a few good ones. The current and pitch black night made it pretty hard to focus. Sun starts to come up and all I have are two 12" greenies one of which gets hit, hard, and the other torn to shreds by the sea dogs. After asking a couple guys if they found squid, I started to feel that lingering feeling of doubt. Next drop of the squid jig and we have ink! Immediately pin him on and down to the depths. Not 10 minutes after watching someone lose a fish at color, my reel goes berserk. Fought for 20 minutes or so and another yakker is bent. We both landed our good size yellows and headed in laughing and exhausted ( I was at least). Can't complain, made a new friend and landed my first kayak YT. I'll leave it to him to post pics of his beauty. Here's mine.

Wow! I've got to pay a visit down South... the fish that we're catching in the OC seems like baitfish compared to your catches.... Nice job!

For all those who are fortunate enough to be in the strike zone of the YTs, you may wish to try some Misoyaki Yellowtail. Good eats with rice and side dish (like Hawaiian style curry-seasoned macaroni and mayo) or even better as a fajitas or tacos...

Just head over to a Mitsuwa or Marukai Japanese grocer and pick up a few bottles of :

Marukome Miso Yaki Sauce...

http://www.marukomeusa.com/recipes.html

I am in no way associated with the product... just a fan of the marinade and sauces.

Bon Appetit! or should I say Itadakimasu!

Jim, you look a little soaked in this pic. Was it really humid or did you take a dip in the drink?

I had walked out into the water to rinse some of the blood off. I bleed out any fish I keep and I was pretty covered in it.
