Impulse buy.

I bought a brand new shimano tyrnos 8 for 150.00 dollars. Why? who knows.
I always wanted a two speed reel, but this sucker is kind of smallish. I put 300 yards of 30 lb braid on it tonight and it could still handle a little top shot of some thing. I'll probably use it as a bait trolling reel, but I would prefer 50lb braid around the kelp. I think 50lb braid might be to much for this small but mighty reel. Any one use one of these reels, and if so how do you have it set up? Guess it would be a nice bait catching reel if nothing else. Don't really need two speeds to reel in macks though.

there are a million guys that will disagree, but...

ask yourself how often you need more than 900 feet of line? (300yds)

Lets say you put on your 50 or 65....you can fish to china.

I have 50lb on my Tyrnos 8, and I have more than enough line on it for whatever. You could always transfer the 30lb braid to a couple bass rods for the kelp....

Most if not all of my reels have 150yds of spectra, that includes my Shimano Cardiff, Sealine 20, 30 & 40. If you fill the entire reel there is a good chance you'll either sell the reel or loose it to the LJ fish Gods before the entire line see's the light of day.

I own several....

I run 40 power pro on mine, with 6 to 8ft topshots of both 30 and 40 pound Fluoro. 40 cuts kelp better then 50 do to the smaller diameter (sharper) and I've never broken it from a kayak.

The reels are ridiculously strong for their size. Here's a Black seabass I released at SBI after a long fight.

The reel performed flawlessly on that fish, which was probably well over 200 pounds.

Capacity was a non issue, it never had more then a hundred yards off the reel even when sounding deep off the shelf at SBI.

My only gripe is the clicker is hard to flip on and off with wet hands. There's a modification you can do with a little sandpaper that fixes that.

Great reels, best bang for the buck around. I think you could land anything you could hook locally with that reel, other then perhaps a big adult T or Sword.

I love that reel. That's my go to YT destroyer! Get rid of the 30lb put on some 50-60lb braid with a floro top shot. I use it for fly lining macks with a 55lb braid, 2-3 ft floro top shot and a circle hook. The lever drag works great for setting that circle hook on the fly and the reel is super strong for handling the big YT's. Enjoy

I have 500 yards on all my reels as I cast 200 yards all the time.
300 yards is good in my book.

Thanks for the replys. I think I appreciated the little reel a little more now. Took the 30 lb braid off another reel just to see and get an idea of the reels capacity.
I only have a few reels, and lost one, a shimono torium 30 during a bad surf landing a month or so a go. I think the new little reel has found a new home.
