Rinse with freshwater, Dry, Repeat. That's the method that was always taught to me by Granddad! That being said, Rust still seems to always win the battle with me.

rust is not pretty...baby powder or similar. or some say wd40 catches fish.

If your worried about the hooks rusting, spray some wd on em' they'll be a little oily but they wont rust! I remember some old timers i used to fish with would always put a piece of chalk in with their hooks....i guess it was to absorb moisture...give it a try!

I only take a few of everything with me vs. the whole lot of everything.

The advantage: if it does get wet not too big of a deal. Only a few things get rusty. I can't remember when I've used more than 4-5 hooks and couple of swivels during one paddle.

The disadvantage: once in a while I'll be out and realize I forgot something.

Get a waterproof box There is a company called "plano" that makes some small ones for a good price.
