I think i may use a combination of PVC and zipties to temporarily install the complete unit for LJ on Saturday before I start cutting holes in the yak.
that should be ok as long as you stow the head unit during launch and landing
probably should leash the head unit somehow just in case...

I am in the same boat, pun intended, I will be mounting an elite 4 soon and am plenty nervous about the install. I like the tallon mount because it is so clean. I might do the same as you and rig it in a couple different spots before the final install. I like the idea of the channel on the left it will make loading and unloading less sketchy not having to worry about getting the ram mount hung up on shit. Keep us posted pics would be cool. When I mount mine I will post pics. The xducer mount has me a little confused also....

I was looking at this site and they have some nice stuff for mounting your FF and the transducer over the side of the kayak. And it could be stored during a surf launch. Having the transducer in the water will give you a better reading on your FF and it is easy to move it to another Kayak.

I spent ALOT of time pondering mounting locations. I eventually went for the right side mount. I'm right handed and I'm always messing with the settings. This left the left side for the anchor trolley setup. In the picture you can see the general setup plus the wet transducer mount in the center hatch. btw, that's a Humminbird 597CI DI
