i would bring bungee cords and strap my rods along my kayak. store my reels in the hatches and travel very light for the first few trips. this way, the rods dont snap if you roll.. and they are still tied to the kayak. sand on rods are fine, but sand in reels is bad, and thus why they stay in the hatches. also.. predicting the swell for the best time to launch.. i will stand and stare at the waves for 10 minutes.

i guestimate the time interval between big wave sets, and count how many waves are in the set. i will launch when the last 2 waves in the set are about to break. that way.. when i'm at the breaking spot, the big set has already passed and i am in the clear.

Thank you for the advice. Will definitely keep what you said in mind as I look at the best way to reconfigure my Yak for future trips.

The preacher that baptized was not that gentle. But I think it is better to be baptized the way I was so that I have a better appreciation of the life we chose.
