Different groups have been studying the LJ parking situation for 15 years. They keep coming to the same conclusions but hardly anything ever changes. My guess is that this trend will continue for a few more years. I wouldn't mind paying a couple bucks to park there as long as it's really just a couple bucks and I can park there the whole day. This 90 min or 3 hour limit stuff is BS.

The article says that the reason for the pay parking would be to increase open spaces and not generate revenue. Well, unless they are going to use the proceeds to build a parking garage, the number of parking spaces will stay the same. So either they are trying to discourage people from coming by having pay parking and creating more open spaces, or they are lying and trying to generate revenue.

Probably just an attempt by a few rich La Jollans to make "their" beach too expensive for "undesireables" while relieving some of the city's financial woes. Like kurt pointed out, no new spaces will be added. In fact, they plan on removing street parking altogether unless you are a resident. Given supply and demand I can imagine it becoming very expensive to park there during the summer months. Really is too bad what's happening to this city. Might as well officially merge us with Los Angeles.

I read the link provided by the UT. A large part of the funds, ~40% will go to enforcement. If they used it to keep the launch ramp from caving in everytime it rained, and kept the raw sewage runoff off the beach I wouldn't complain too much. I am most worried about the time limit.

Time limits or time of day restrictions could only be bad. I'm sure there will be a public comment period once they settle on some alternatives. Like Patrick said it will probably be quite awhile before anything is officially implemented. I just hope they don't implement some sort of severely restricted pilot program under the guise of collecting more information.

Kayakers and other early morning launch users are probably a relative small user group. We'll all have to make a lot of noise to be heard.

Welll, when the time for making noise does present itself, we'll have to have a party in front of some politicians house.... Just let me know when and where and we'll, at the very least, be heard!
