Nope, it broke on the cast. I watched it fly down the line. I was casting towards the wall on the inside harbor. On a side note, If you haven't used those slayer heads before, they are great for kelp, I almost never get snagged with them

Broke on cast? that sucks~~
I step on my SHIMANO CLARUS the second day after i bought it, and broke the exact spot like you did.

Not sure if BAJA will exchange for you, but Shimano will do it.

That is a sad story I had almost the same story with a brand new rod and reel but I never got to make one cast before the wife ran it over... guess I should have got an ugly sick haha

I'm worried that they will claim I broke it by stepping on it or some thing like that. I was actually on the water and it happened as descibed. I couldn't believe it. I even still have the rod rigged since the break. I almost came in but I had the new 8 footer so I just played with it for the rest of the day. Supper bummer though.
I need to head out to Fry's in FOuntain Valley anyways, I think I will just drive the extra 15 miles to Shimano and see what they say.

Shimano is your best bet and they'll take care of you, but any reputable shop / shimano dealer will take care of you.
They can tell if you broke it on a fish or ran it over with a car, you'll be fine.

The shop you bought it at should replace it, but Shimano definitely will. There's a big difference in how a break looks if it's been crushed in a car door or stepped on compared to a break like you have. They'll be able to tell.
