La Jolla 3/9am
About 10:30 it looked the Miramar Landfill on a 100 degree day......freaking seagulls everywhere (and I'm being conservative). Just like that I caught 5 or 6 Slimers, wind really started picking up. Saw lots of bait popping, called it quits at about 12:30 got to windy and choppy. Easy Landing. |

That's a big jump in water temps from yesterday and the day before... I was getting 57. Thanks for the report.

I was reading 57 degrees this morning. Once the sun finally came out the birds were all over, working the chovies that were being pushed up by the macs. No luck for me except macs & cudas on the surface iron, and a couple of sandies on the yoyo.

I was out where most the boats were until about 2:30.... Had a hard time making bait.. got mostly smelt . Then as the tide was lowering, I found myself smack dab ontop of the kelp. Explains why I was only finding smelt. Once I found the edge of the kelp, I immedietaly found a school of spaniards and began to crank em in. Unfortunetaly as I got settled in with bait, the birds clocked out. Nothing but a slimer for me on the Raider megabait (silver and black). Some YT were caught though. I heard a bit of chatter on 72 about a 18 lb YT landed by a PB... Looked like Summer months today..Get ready for a long paddle though. It was about 2.5 to 3 miles from the shores to the birds at one point (closer in earlier on). That about a 45 - 60 minute paddle for most. (based on how fast your kayak cruises. my FnD is slow.. 3 mph sustained.. closer to 4 mph if flat and no wind)
