With the inlet at the bottom, like the Hobie tanks, when the pump stops the water is siphoned back out unless checked. |

Thanks. I will look at west marine for those clips. Now that I think of it I got some paddle clips like that at west marine for another boat I had. Only smaller. I'll see if they have the larger clips. Again thanks.

Beautiful job and lots of great ideas. I particularly like the goop method of joining wires.
As all of us with bait tanks which use a pump mounted below the waterline of the tank know, water will drain out when the pump is turned off. There are several ways to deal with this. You an install a back flow valve like the one that Greg mentioned but those can sometimes foul with kelp. An easier and more foolproof way to solve the problem is to put an "ell" fitting where the water enters your tank and attach a vertical piece of pipe that extends up to the desired waterline. If you use a threaded ell you can angle the water input pipe to allow it to drain. You can see how this is done on a Hobie tank by going to post #36 in the Innovations tread. Bob |
