I don't night fish or hoop so I haven't needed the survival type dry gear. The waders look tempting but I wear a pair of light long pants to keep the sun off and a paddling jacket over a long sleeve tee shirt or maybe a polar fleece if it's colder. I don't tend to get cold and having a wet butt isn't too annoying for me. Mike

Me too. Light poly pants (wind pants over them for night fishing), long sleeve poly shirt and paddle jacket. If it's a really cold morning I wear polar fleece under the jacket. I have a pair of waders too, but they don't zip. So, relief is impossible and I don't like that. Plus, a wide brimmed hat.

Wet suit

Best thing that works for me , is the wet suit you can pick one up on Craigslist for $50 3 mm. You can always put it on half ways and if it gets cold put it on all the way.it also gives you peace of mind in case you have to go for a swim on that chilly water.

I would never buy a used wetsuit. You just don't know where that thing has been.

What I use for local So CA conditions
Cotton kills. Base layer, worn year-round. Everything I wear is polyester. Its lightweight, packable, quick-drying, breathable, does not soak up water, and it floats! Look for the stuff with the anti-microbial fabric. It's got silver or ceramic particles in it. Keeps it smelling like new for months without washing. Just rinse the blood off and you're good to go again.

Cold weather. Insulation layer is Polartech fleece or Primaloft synthetic.

Outer Layer is waterproof-breathable for winter and wind shirt for summer

It's a little bulky at first, but once you break it in, it becomes extremely comfortable. If I buy another one, I might buy it 1 size smaller than I would normally just because when you're sitting in your yak, the stomach part will bunch up on ya.
