smart to stay away from Worst Buy though...

Describe took a dump. Is it now powering on, blue screen of death, errors on boot up? Could be as simple as buying a new hard drive and reimaging.

will it boot off a CD/DVD? you can burn a UBCD and check the hard disk, memory etc.....

you can also plug in an external monitor to check to see if anything is showing on the screen

is this an older laptop? have you removed the battery and reinserted it and plugged it back in?

Hopefully I am not in line for nothing at Wally world at midnight T day to get my daughter one, they have a few good deals on laptops.

Since you power it on and it goes off in 2 sec, I think it's probably the mother board and not worth putting a bunch of moeny into it. I would remove the hard drive buy a new compter and sell the old one on ebay for parts.
