Kayak protection

Noticed that the very front of my PA was starting to wear..so I looked into finding some protection. Came across this protective strip you can put on your kayak called keel eazy. There were several other manufacturers that had something similar but this was specifically made for kayaks.

Heres the front end of my PA....start'n to wear a little..

Try'n to figure out were to place the new keel eazy strip..

With a little bit of heat, this stuff sticks pretty good!!!

After finishing the front...I thought I'd take care of the back too....here's before

And after....

Hopefully this stuff works out...... at $4 a foot it's not too bad, for what it protects.

Nice! Where'd you pick it up at? Let us know how well it holds up. Mine could use that in the front.

I got it directly from the website, Just google keeleazy and it should be the first one that pops up. Hopefully this stuff doesn't peel off the first time I take it out, but I doubt it, looks pretty solid.

Tony,

I tried it on some rentals and it did not hold up for very long...........rentals get put through some serious wear and tear though.

I used keel easy strips on 2 kayaks and they held up well. I did change them out once a year when they start to get tore up. Use a heat gun when applying it helps bond to the hull

That stuff was orginally made for boats so I'm sure it will hold up, I'll wait to see what it does for you before I use it on my Outback.

Sticky!!! that's disgusting.

I'd think that it's obvious that's not me from that skinny roadbike 700c tube.

Back on topic you can actually take larger bike tube like for a 26x2.125 cut a piece a foot long, cut one side open and trim it into the same type shape used above.

You then glue it to your keel using spray contact trim adhesive. I've a friend that does that and it works. (I'm thinking he's not seen the post yet)

Inner tube rubber may not last as long but old tubes are free if you cycle a lot (I do) it lasts longer then duct tape, and it's softer then plastic so it won't scratch up your car paint.

You can request a free sample on their site. They sent me a 10" strip and I have been using it on the back keel. So far so good.

Good stuff there Tony. The price seems right too. I'll have to check it out the next time we hit the water.

After years and years of making kayaks...you would think that all the kayak manufactures would THINK to put extra protection under the kayak were it drags.

Lots of room for improvment still needs to come.
