Lazy and windy
It was blowing pretty good by 10am so I went to Mammoth for some shopping and to fill a propane bottle...I set up the hammock...what a genius device...that thing is so comfortable and warm even in the wind...almost spent all day there...LOL
The fishing was outrageous at the upper end of the lake by Reverse creek once the wind died down...I also collected the crawfish traps...nothing to write home about on those critters since the water is still pretty cold...enough for a good boil. Picked up an even bigger Rainbow than yesterday’s 3 1/2 pounder...resort was closed so no weight... And somebody call Trump...I think I saw a Latino caravan... http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1563339599 http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1563339687 http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1563339788 http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1563339894

Jim, may want to edit your first line or you will have a bunch of people trying to find your campsite, hahaha Been too long since I have been up there. Need to make the trip again soon, maybe with one of the kids. Great reports and pics, as always |

do you drag live fish around on the stringer while you are out there or do you dispatch them and then just keep them on the stringer to keep them fresh in the cold water?

Fish
The water is about 56 degrees so it’s cold enough to keep the trout fresh...if you put a healthy fish on a stringer they can often stay alive for an hour or more.

Grant
I fished Grant Lake this morning...it is a DWP reservoir so they change the water level during the summer...it’s as full as I’ve ever seen it...way up into the Willows on Rush Creek...I was able to kayak into waters that are usually inaccessible...but...I only caught two fish...LOL
I came back to Silver and had another 10 fish day...and set some more crawfish traps. I also took a little trip up Reverse creek and it was a lot of work...there is so much water flowing down from Agnew lake and over Horsetail Falls. Only a few fish seen and nothing caught...maybe later in the season when the flow slows down... And that little rodent is a cousin of the Marmots that we see in the backcountry...they call it a Whistle Pig... http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1563426319 http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1563426408 http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1563426493 http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1563426564 http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1563426639 http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1563426719 http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1563426798

Thanks for all the wonderful photos Jim! Really inspiring. I’m headed up to the front side of the sierras this weekend, hope we have the same weather and success!

Slow
Slow fishing today...really baking hot sun until the wind machine kicked in around 2 pm...
Pretty uneventful day...although I got to watch the Osprey with a trout and getting it straight for the flight up to the cliff It looked like about a 1 1/2 pounder He looked like a helicopter that could barely take off. Gorgeous sight... Clouds have been building each night and thunderstorms are forecast to start Monday or Tuesday... Did the boil tonight and fed 7...not WFO on the Dads but a two night soak got enough bugs for a fun dinner...well...fun for everyone but Mr Crawdad... http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1563682462 http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1563682611 http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1563682687

Back Home...
The wind was up early at Silver so I decided to fish beautiful little Gull lake Sunday morning.... for one trout and 2 PERCH...what a way to end a really good fishing trip...
http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1563940768 http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1563940952 http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1563941014 Decided to leave a day early and avoid some wind and thunderstorms... The wind was really blowing hard all night long and early Monday morning too... The view of Long Valley from 395 as you go down Sherwin Summit is just beautiful and the camera never does it justice. http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1563941086 It was pretty damn hot crossing the Mojave desert...I think it hit about 103 between Olancha and Red Rock Canyon....although, the building thunderstorm clouds did seem to take the edge off the heat. http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1563941165 http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1563941216 It looks like it rained up there today...so I got out of Dodge just in time. I'll be back up for two weeks on the last week of August and first week of September....hopefully the water will be warm and the Crawdads will be crawling... I'll be in campsite #23...stop by and have a beer if you're up there for the holiday...
