I fished all morning for nothing, but seeing your fish just blew my mind, very nice fish. I think I saw you pass us and head for the outer point of kelp. Again very nice yellow.

"when I noticed a small pod of large Yellowtail cruising along in the distance."
OK, I will be the one to ask the question that dozens of people who read this post have probably asked themselves. What the hell does a small pod of large yellowtail cruising look like? Granted I have not spent nearly enough time on the water yet but I cannot say that I have ever been able to spot fish on the surface. I know the signs for bait and birds. What are the signs of big fish that we should be looking for? Thanks for your help. Bob |

but ya gotta use polarized glasses!!! Trust me on this one Josh can read the water like no one else!! The dude has put me on fish everytime I have tagged along with him, it really is amazing to witness firsthand.

Expensive questions there, Bob. My favorite quote from our most recent Batman movie "The dark knight" was when The Joker (Heath Ledger) said :"if you're good at something don't give it away for free". That said, without giving too much away, if you're only looking for obvious signs of giant fish around you: huge boils, frothing schools blowing up with massive water displacement, bait jumping out of the water, diving birds etc...plan on missing plenty of opportunities. These fish weren't even making the slightest ripple on the surface and no birds were over head. If I hadn't just polished the salt crusted splash off my glasses and have the sun perfectly at my back, absolutely no chance of seeing these fish. To answer Billy's question: How far does a Calstar 100J cast? Without giving you exact figures as it varies from a number of variables such as wind conditions, thumb control, and jig-weight. I will simply say that either the Seeker Ulua 93H or the Castar 100J will cast two to three times farther than a typical 7' kayak rod.

On the other hand, don't yellowtail also like commotion in the water?. I remember last summer fishing LJ,I was flylining baits and everytime this small outboard boat went zooming by me the yellows would bite! Couldn't wait for his passes... Thus, inboards, outboards, paddles going through the water excite yellows and others in the tuna family.

Gotta love the quiet days. A solid fish just makes it that much better.
