Arrived at 6:45-ish, met a gentleman. He said he caught 1 short Hali and a couple of bass I think. Told me that red crabs were everywhere. Oh boy, they were. First couple cast, got a bite with a swing and miss. Met another person, he said he was heading out to the ocean alone since his fishing buddy didnt show up/reply. Caught a dinky spotty, my only fish of the day. Too many red crabs so I went home at 8-ish.

Does anyone know if red crabs are edible? My Pa said they're good eating, I don't know if he's trying to trick me or something.

Older Gentleman:

>= 2 Bass

Me:

1 small spotty

I also went out today 6 to 10am, para nada. Fished mouth of jetty inward, half-way around Bal Island and Hali Alley. Red crab were everywhere, even around Bal Island. Strong current in some areas, no real wind.

Bummer. But, it could've been worse. I just got done working a 16hr shift. I much prefer fishing.

What were you using for bait?

I'm surprised the Christmas Tree didn't do better. Then again, Newport is finally acting like it's winter time. This week is how it usually is in Feb.

Yeah, christmas tree is my favorite color for the big hammer. but I figured maybe they want something else other than red since there were so many red crabs.
