I did that out in the desert once while we were pheasant hunting. The local F&G warden was a COMPLETE douche nugget. He had his sled parked next to my truck and was actually blocking my truck from leaving. He was nowhere to be found and I needed to pee so I dropped trouser and relieved myself on his state provided front tire. Doubt he ever noticed but it did give me a strange sense of satisfaction in addition to making my bladder gladder.

Up on the bluff above the cove would be a better place to pop poachers in the reserve. I can't remember ever seeing the DFW at the launch. Mike.

She stopped me and asked me a bunch of questions, how deep I was, what fish I caught, how big were they, what I kept. She even had me point on a map where I fished.

I've seen the same truck and one other at the launch once before. One had the binoculars on someone down by the Marine Room, while the other raced down the beach. Never saw who or what they were after...

i'm glad to see them out where ever & whenever i do.
and especially like to see them checking fishing license, and checking kept fish for size & limits.

NO ONE should have a problem with them being there, or anywhere else.

if you are not breaking F&G laws, you need not worry about them being there.
if you are breaking their laws, you deserve to be caught & punished.

Heres my rant. I've been biting my tongue on this for some time; previous posts have had the same tone. I've had the opportunity to work hand in hand with the DFW on large projects all across California (I work for an OSRO, my most recent stint was chauffeuring 4 DFW employees around an oil spil for 8 days straight, 1 biologist, 1 warden, 2 officers), and I can personally vouch for the generally happy demeanor most of them have. One thing that I feel gets overlooked by most of us (who just simply don't know, not anyone's fault) is that patrolling the beaches is just part of their job. Each of them has a specialty, and to be blunt, their personalities typically reflect their job title.

Having that said, next time anyone has the opportunity to talk with the DFW, ask them what their title is. Is he/she wearing a gun? If so, youre probably looking at a warden. You can figure out a lot about how the person is as a human being, thus giving you an indicator about how to talk to him/her. Be kind. They are enjoying the same sunshine you are. This "piss on their tire" attitude will make it worse for all kayak fishermen.

Edit- After I re-read this, it sounded a little harsh. You should know this isn't a dig at you, just the statement. See you OTW.

Anyone who has any problem with a DFW truck being there has no business being on the water.

If you're not doing anything wrong, you shouldn't have any concern with them being there...

and if you think as high powered lens is intrusive, imagine running into this

Just too clarify... I had no problems with the DFG being at the launch. My title of the post was supposed to be "know the boundaries. "(Stupid phone).

I was posting to remind people to know where it is legal to fish, because if not you could pay a heavy price.

Personally, I am glad the DFG is out doing their job.

I've come in contact with Game wardens on and off the water and none of them have ever had a bad attitude. Treat them with respect, and you'll get respect back. As others have said if you have nothing to hide, and you're playing by the rules, you'll be fine. If you are keeping fish that are undersized then you may want to rethink doing so. Believe me, if you think you are not being watched while on the water, you're wrong, I've known people that have been popped when coming back to shore. Be honest, follow the rules, and you'll be fine.

I'm from a small town in the Sierra Nevadas and they were always polite up there. Normally because there is one warden that has to take care of a whole county and rolling up on a bunch of crazy hicks by yourself can be scary. Especially during hunting season when everyone has a gun. I definitely support those guys. I hate regulations, but I am more about catching fish than catching and eating them. If throwing a few back this year means more fish and bigger fish next year, I am all about it.

For the record, I've never had an issue with F&W in regards to Fishing. My issue has always been with them in regards to hunting and field collecting of other wildlife particularly of reptiles (Another hobby of mine). And I support 100% them in regards to upholding the existing regulations. My issue has been with wardens that cant tell the difference between species of animals and always choose to cite rather than research to find out if what they're doing is right. Many of them couldn't tell the difference between Lampropeltis Zonata (California mountain kingsnake) and Lampropeltis pyromelana (Arizona mountain kingsnake). I know LOTS of people that have been cited, and had animals confiscated only to be proven to be in the right and IF they get their animals returned they're rarely in decent health.

Just been my experience.
