Fresh Bug Bait Report and Osprey Encounter

Had a couple of hours on the water to try and reload my bug bait stash so I took a right turn at the launch to try Scripps Pier. I found a steady pick of 1# plus Greenies (2-3 at a time) at the very end of the pier. After a while I look up and notice an osprey peering down at me. I'm not sure if he was there the entire time but he looked intent to get in on some action.

So out pops the eye of one of my greenies (the old shiner/largemouth bass trick) and back in the water it goes. A minute later, this beautiful bird is bombing next to me and has dinner in its talons.

Someone with a quality camera can have a nice photo oppty...

I thought I saw you, I was going to come say hi but you were going the other way

The greenies having been out of control the past few days. I've just been throwing out a bare 1/0 hook and hooking tree trunks on the retireve lately. Plenty of bug bait to get me through the season

Next time I hope brotha. I launched late, saw some nice bird schools and went through them once and noticed a few yaks chasing it. But I only brought my bass rod anyways so what could I have done?

Thanks for sharing this! Sounds like those guys put some time in trying to get the right photo op. I hope someone tries the eye popper deal. It gets fish swimming in circles on top immediately. Kind of gross though but hey, you want to get bagged and frozen, chopped up and eventually shoved into a bait cage or do you want to get grabbed by an Osprey and go for a flight with a bad eye???
