I have marked schools of yellows on it to that deep, but using chirp or 200khz is my preference. Takes a trip or two to dial in (like any fishfinder), and will take a little getting used to reading the downscan, but what I can say is it makes finding bait 100x easier, and you can distinguish game fish way easier. They will show up as a bright dot (thicker dot for bigger fish) instead of your normal boomerang like the high chirp will show. When you meter a bait school, there will be a hundred tiny little dots. To confirm, you prefer low chirp vs high chirp when fishing deeper water. Do you ever use high chirp? If so, what is max depth you use before changing to low chirp? Have you overlaid down imaging onto sonar display? If I understand things correctly, that would give you best of both technologies (per above video if I remember correctly). Thanks for the input. Probably launching at Oceanside harbor tomorrow to field test my elite chirp 5 with 50/200/455/800 transducer.

Worked fine in Oceanside Harbor. The reason I went this route is convenience. Did not want to try and install my 50/200 BIG transducer via putty, goop, container with water, etc. I transport my yak upside down on my car so above mounting techniques were a concern. Need to test in the surf to determine whether to attach transducer to the mounting system before or after launch/landing. Probably will be determined by size of surf. When attaching my heavy transducer, magnets slipped a bit on the smooth surface of my yak. Manufacturer is shipping me some rubber pads that should take care of any slipping.

I bet you could goop the inner magnet in so you can easily pop the transducer into place after a surf launch.

No need to goop as the magnets are attached before launch/land. The only item to be attached before or after is the arm that the transducer is attached to. Not a big deal......just do not drop the screw into the water when attaching. Might be a good idea to get a spare just in case.

After more research, it seems like choosing the page that shows sonar/downscan is the best way to go. Overlay seems a bit difficult to see downscan image when it is combined with sonar. Will test more when I fish la jolla.......deeper water.
