PA vs Revo

Launched my PA for the first time this a.m. and here are my first impressions of the PA vs. the Revo.

1). The PA is one heavy ass kayak, especially when loaded up - The Revo is much lighter and easier to move around. 2). Speed - Revo hands down. 3). Comfort - PA unbelievably comfortable. 3. Tracking - Have to give it to the Revo - just didn't seem like the PA rudder had enough width to bite when under power and I found myself adjusting the steering all the time. 4). Stability - Damn, its sure is nice to be able to move around the cockpit, stand up to pee, etc.. So for sure, PA wins. 5). Launching/Landing - Personally, I think Hobie's in general suck at this process. At least I didn't roll today, but then the surf was only 1 to 2! 6). Staying Dry - No comparison - PA. 7). Storage - Un-freaking real - PA hands down. I pre-loaded everything at the house last night (Jared's tip), got to the launch and just pulled the PA from the truck bed and I was ready to go.

All in all, its like Chevy vs. Ford - Personal preference. I definitely won't be selling my Revo anytime soon. Both are great kayaks.

On another note: For those that have the PA's - Do you find that the hatches leak? My seals leaked more than a hooker in a two bit German whore house! The liner in the front hatch was almost 1/2 full after launching through the small surf!

I'm surprised I didn't run into you out there Roger. There must have only been like a dozen people out on the water.

i've heard that the seals in the front will fail, but there's lots of good solutions.

replace the seal with something decent.

I upgraded my hatch seals with Moore Industrial Hardware1-800-543-1677 Item #7100-1/16C

Look at the difference:
Pro Angler Hatch Leak

Do you think this thicker gasket would work on a Revo as well? Does it just slip over the plastic hatch edge like the stock gasket? This looks like it might be a great upgrade.

Anyone who has experience with it, please jump in.

Bob

It should. It is the same mount as the stock seal. I'll look ant 467echo's revo tomorrow.

Great review man. I took my PA to LJ on Tuesday for my first ever surf launch and yes, the hatches and horizontal rod holders took on water BIG TIME. I had two or three waves crash my bow and didn't think much of it at the time, however once I cleared the surf zone I could hear & feel gallons of water in the hull. I am definitely going to upgrade those seals much like the ones in the link provided by sandydiego.

Quick question: When I looked at the diagram, it looks like the 'bulb' (seal) is side mounted on the channel piece, not on top where it will create the seal....have you received your order yet?

I just want to make sure before I place my order. Gracias

They show the #7100-1/16A that is on the side of the clip on the web site. You want the #7100-1/16C it is attached to the top edge of the clip. Since the upgrade with the new seal I have had a completely dry hull.

Looking forward to fishing this weekend! Last day of Cub Scout camp today.

I'll be out there tomorrow morning.
