I need a little help in buying and new reel. I have Newell’s and Penn’s and Internationals but. I need help in selecting Bait Caster...>>

Shimano Curado... Haven't used them for SoCal salt but I've used em in Oregon for steelhead and salmon. Great little reels!

Conventional reels... I need something that I can put lighter line on. Less than 12lbs. I like to fish spotties and flatties

For light line my favorite reel on the market is the Daiwa Coastal. Super smooth, low maintenance (Ive oiled mine 2 times in 3 years and they are still super smooth), wet drags, and really light.
