Gary's WCW sub
Caught 7-25 around 6:30 A.M. on a greenback tied to a reverse dropper loop setup. As soon as I saw Jasmine in the fleet I knew it was going to be a good day. He's like a fish magnet that attract fish to the area. This weighed in at 17.5 lbs. Adi. You were right on and thanks for taking the "on the water" shots.

Good job Gary!
It sure looks lonely in the background. Really makes me want to spend $100 and fish "shoulder to shoulder" on a cattle boat , for a bunch of giant tangles and a couple of tiny fish.

UPGRADE
Matt, I didn't rub T-Man's kayak but talking to him at the launch Monday afternoon worked for me today. I caught my personal best yellowtail this morning at 6:30 that weighed in at 31.5 lbs. and 43 inches. When I came in, a guy looking at the fish asked if I had trouble gaffing it. This time I made a hurried clean gaff shot taking the fish out of reach from a damn seal lion that made his appearance as the fish came to color. This is the first time I've had to deal with a seal on MY yellowtail. At least he only messed with the underside. Thanks goes out to the Pber that put his line in freespool when he found it ensnared mine. |

Congrats on the new personal best, Gary!
Are you sure that guy wasn't attacked by a 300 lb White Seabass? Looks like the teeth marks I like to see, but bigger . On a side note, I've never seen a dog attack a Yellowtail in La Jolla with candy in the water.

White Seabass caught 5-20-09. This is a big upgrade from my last wsb, an 8 pounder from two years ago. She weighed in at 33 1/2 lbs. on the official Sullivan bathroom scale. I decided to risk losing a mack to a seal than have a bottom feeder pick apart my dead squid deep in the thick kelp. A one ounce egg sinker put the greenie in range and it took full strike on my lever drag reel to slow her down. Man do those fish pull hard. It was a beautiful day with birds crashing and dolphins everywhere. Good luck to those of you who are going out there this weekend.

Nice fish, Gary!
Let me know if that fish had any eggs, a trophy indeed, but most the females that long weigh closer to 50 lbs this time of year.
I'm stoked for you, Gary!

Nice Gary, I'm new here. But seen a lot of big fish from the veteran out there. Hope someday, I'll get the nice one like everyone else. Congra. 2 you.
