Planning to head out on my kayak on sunday to target sculpin. Any reccomendations on where to go? La jolla? Jetty in big bay? Mission bay jetty? Never really targeted them so dont really know. Or anybody want to head out with me?

sculpin...now that sounds like a challenge;)

Sculpin I can't help you with, when you start looking for lizardfish let me know

janines.fishtales@cox.net 02-15-2013 08:11 PM

Huh. U have good taste. They r one of the better eating fish. I have caught them in 40 - 60' of water, SD bay. Shelter island, near porpoise/research boats. That's gonna b just north of bait receiver. They like squid and anchovies.

Janine. :cheers1:

Like said above 40-60' I catch more around ballast point, basically any deeper structure but they can also be caught shallow. Anchovies or swimbaits with bright colors and chartreuse or orange lead head.

Thanks guys!! They tasye great. Ive always caught one or 2 as a bycatch when looking for rockfish but never caught them with regularity. Thanks again for the info, looks like ill be heading out to ballast point area on sunday

I'd be interested in joining you. Always up for learning. Haven't tried targeting rockfish or sculpin so if you're ok with a rookie taging along I'm up for it.

Ggiannig89 02-16-2013 07:22 AM

RGB 02-16-2013 06:21 PM

I read it the same way. It's 120 ft in the Cowcod Conservation Areas.

Ggiannig89 02-16-2013 07:07 PM

By the way if anyone shows up ill be the one with an orangish / yellowish tarpon 140. My names Gianni

RGB 02-16-2013 07:19 PM
