Report - Father's Day LJ

The score:

barries: 3
coats: 1

critters: 3

After a long several weeks of being land-locked, finally got the opportunity to get out. Arrived at the launch around 5ish, foggy lo-vis, a few others rigging (Nice meeting you Matt - hope you scored), pretty low/manageable surf. All appearences a good start to the morning. Wet launch as usual but the coffee survived so not bad. Out past the cans, shortly after fussing with a depth finder that wouldn't cooperate. No water temp but it was warming up, and I thought somewhat dirty-green. Not much wind at all and small swell to start which built to around 3 feet later in the morn. Pleanty of bait in the water, saw a good 8 or so yaks and 2 PBs on the spot making bait. EXCELLENT macks, greenies, and dines to be had on the sabiki with little effort. Filled up the tubes quick like. Made a couple casts on the 15# bass rod/Calcutta 400 with a med size Krok with the (dine?) hologram & got a BIG bend on the med retieve. It was on for a good 15 mins getting drug around a bit and a few 20-40 yard-ish runs, and then a bit of skulking on the bottom. After horsing er up to color, I confirmed Mr Mudd Marlin was in no mood! Broght him up to deep color twice and on the third he had enough and took my Kroc to Davey Jones. For most of the morning we worked the outside edge of the kelp with the rest of the fleet including the PBs & cattle boats which arrived well after the yaks. Not much love as far as I could tell save for a few scratchin out some coats, then I guess a school of barries came in and guys, including my buddy who was on his way in at the time, picked some school-models up - slimers sent back. His were on the Dorado tady-C working boils. He cast to one good boil on the kelp line and was slammed. Boated a nice checker, measured 17", 1.7 on the digi. While he was doing his thing I was pickin up a few critters to avoid the stink. Ended up with a fem goat, a rosy(?) and a tree fish all on a squid strip dropper loop. Anybody have any opinions on the critters I mentioned as far as how they are on the table?? Landed in a bit of surf but it was dry so all good! Wrapped it up by 10, left em biting due to domestic duties. All in all a very pleasant session and great morning on the water.
