Camping trip at Leo carrillo.

It looks like this next week i will be camping at leo carrillo for a few days. I will be kayak fishing weather permiting. I have fished here before multiple times, but was unsure if anything was happening right now. What would you guys target and what would you use if you were in my position?
Any help is very appreciated.
Tight lines,
Johnny

Next week

I'm off work next Monday and Tuesday and planning to fish that area. Im not sure what days you have planned exactly but am always more than willing to have company and buddy help to assist with yak. Feel free to pm me if interested? Right now not much going on as far as fish landed with hook and line. I can help with setups and suggestions on private line .

White Seabass, Halibut, Calico Bass.

A simple search will tell you how to target these species... If I was you I'd target the Halibut. Live bait is king.

How was Leo?
Did you end up fishing?
I went out at Deer creek rd. Not a lot of fish but there where plenty of seals and dolphin.

Sorry for the late response, i just got back from the trip today. We fished leo Monday morning. Paddled out a bit late trying to wait out the wind. Water was a lake by the time we got out. Fished around for a bit for nada then finally got on a spot for all you could want whitefish. Literally every drop was a bite. Saw a guy on Tuesday pull a halibut out and to guys on Wednesday pull a 50+ pound WSB out.

Thanks
I haven't launched from Leo Carrillo yet.
Thinking of doing so in the near future.
Maybe I will see you down there.

Curious as to what you mean by whitefish.

I'll be out there Saturday, probably the usual rockfish in the rocks to the East in front of Nicholas Canyon, but also want to try drifting for halis. Any particularly good spots for that?

Probably ocean whitefish. Small mouth, like cut squid, same neighborhood as rockfish. Good eating

I meant ocean white fish. They have a small mouth and prefer squid strips. I also saw some sheepshead the other day on shrimp. If you go double dropper loop with a squid strip and a shrimp will never fail. For halibut i prefer trolling along the edges of where the eel grass and rocks meet the sand. This can be from 15 to 30 feet of water (need a fish finder). If you don't have a FF trolling the edges of the kelp with a live Mack or squid on a Carolina rig off the bottom will get you halibut, as well as the chance for a WSB or even a yellow
Good luck out there and Stay safe
