3/17 Luck o the Irish
Caught this tagged yellowtail yesterday.
First light launch into ankle slappers and a light offshore breeze. Birds and bait everywhere. Easy greenbacks, tossing back twice as many spanish. I slow trolled a flyline bait all the way to just inside the NWC, staying between 85 and 120 feet. Once there I dropped the yoyo, sent a dropper loop down, worked on casting the long rod all por nada. Dogs were everywhere, but never stole a bait, they were following the porpoise. Made my way back in around the 1/2 and set one on the bottom and flylined the other. Clicker went singing and fish on, first one of the year for me on the flyline. 105 feet and the fish found that deep kelp. Spectra saved the day as it easily popped through several stringers. I almost never bother reeling in the second line when fighting a fish, this was one of those times where it got dicey as the fish had wrapped it a couple times, at color I did not want it to run again and made a frantic swing and a miss, reached a little deeper and stuck it. 22 pounder 11am. Stoked.
