Questions about switching/adding casting reels to my quiver.

I've always been a spinning reel guy, as you can see in my previous posts

I did a lot of talking to some people and reading, and I don't really plan on replacing my Saragosas, because I've had great success with them and I'm the kind of person who likes to stick to what works lol...however I'm open to new ideas. I also like to keep the ammount of gear I have to a minimum, so overall versatility to me is very important.

However, even this smilies use casting reels

I'm curious about Abu Garcias, and the ease of transistion to throwing an Iron. I'm really not looking to start playing with birds nests, one after the other, and I was taught about the magnetic cast assist from the Avec.

I ask about Abu Garcia, because I've read great stuff about their quality, and I get a pretty generous discount on them.
Specifically the Revo series (Premier) for throwing irons
or the Alphamar if I plan to troll for halibut?
Thoughts?

Abu makes some fine reels but they are not really what you're looking for in a iron casting reel. You want a bigger reel with out a level wind on it. Depending on your price range you can go with the Newell 300 series, Daiwa sealine, saltist, or saltiga, shimao torium or trini. All will work. I have been meaning to update my surface iron gear for years now but my old Newell 338 and 533 just keep killing fish. Mike
