f/f problem or me?

i searched posts on three sites and could not find this one.
i got an older extreme. had f/f installed with kayatank had foam peeled back and gooped to inside under front hatch. nothing but black vertical lines on f/f when i tried it in bay. had transducer reinstalled and took it out to la jolla yesterday (1st time, what a blast) got same problem. i tried manual sensitivity at 80%-no black lines but all i got was temp which seemed right, depth which would jump around from 18 feet back to 110 feet out at kelp and the rest of the screen blank. i know i was over a huge amount of macs cause i would drop my sabiki about 40 feet and come back with 4 or 5 every time. this is what the screen looked like. any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Really weird, I know that the foam was cleaned away completely and that there are no bubbles in the goop.

If you want to bring it back in we can try again. Or go with a different mounting idea like i had on my eXtreme.
