Transporting and storing Hobie PA 12

Im slowing making my way over From the florida Panhandle.
Made a pit stop here in Arizona to visit family. In a week or so ill be headed to Sand Diego . I Planned on getting a small truck for transporting the yak but funds are a little tighter then expected. My question is do any of you car top your PA?

My other concern is Storage .. My better half will be finishing her degree in Arizona so I will be living on the ship until she's done with school. If i can find a room to rent near the Ships I may go that route.... I realize storage is a rare commodity out there . Do most of you just get a storage unit?

any help would be appreciated

You can store in my garage for a small fee of letting me use it unrestricted

I used to car top my PA14. The weight was not an issue so much as protecting the cars finish. You have to refine a technique on getting it on without scratching. (sounds dirty, I know ) I have a PA12 now but I got a Malone Sport trailer for it.

Cool what system did you use on top of your car.

Damaging the car is not a major concern. My wife has owned it for a long time was her fist car when she was 16. I plan on running it till it dies .
Thinking of using a yakima system.

where do you store your yak/trailer?

I had all Thule. The saddles I used (and still use on the trailer) is the Glide-N-Set. Works flawlessly. I the entire rig garaged, ready to roll

Nice do you pull the trailer with that car ? Might go that route is it expensive to register a trailer out there?

I carry my Prangler 14 on my Durango using nothing but a pair of Hully rollers bolted to the rear bar. A door mat protects the truck during loading. Here's the rig from the rear...

And the rig loaded, prior to attaching tie-downs...

I've carried it for hundreds of miles at interstate speeds with no problem and a surprisingly small hit on gas mileage.

I actually tow it with a 2012 Prius and I still get 49 MPG from Rancho Cucamonga to San Diego and back. It was about $24 to register.
