From Mississippi to CA

Just moved to the area and bought a new Krakken. Still trying to figure out all the ins and outs of the saltwater game here. What the best way to get bait? Sabiki? Do people use case nets here?

Yes most of us use a Sabiki rig. You can also buy bait from one of the bait barges if you launch in a harbor such as Newport or Dana Point. But often times they only have chovies or sardines and not mackerel so a lot of us just make bait ourselves. Sometimes you make bait in a few minutes and sometimes it can be more difficult and take awhile.

Welcome to beautiful California and enjoy the best season of fishing we have had in 20 years! You moved here at the best possible time for fishing 👍🏼

What part of Mississippi. I was stationed in Gulfport for 3 years. And I also have The Kraken!

Unless you happen to go north of Point Conception. Which is sort of middle of the state.

If you happen to fish the San Francisco bay, then only three hooks on Sabiki is allowed.

Go figure.

Dad from Bay st. Louis. Spent time there and learned to use a caste net. Grandpa made them by hand and still have one of them. Not legal in Socal.
