La Jolla Closed?

Heard the beaches between the cove and Scripps Pier are closed due to a Hammerhead shark sighting. Good thing the news doesn't follow this website or the beaches wouldn't be open all summer.

I was on the beach when the swimmer was talking about it. He was told that a large one was following him and they tried to do their best to stay in between them. From what I could gather it was pretty close to the beach. I would have stuck around to hear more but I was in a hurry to get out of the clusterfvck that was the boat launch.

LA JOLLA (CBS 8) - San Diego Lifeguards close beaches in La Jolla area, after reports of a hammerhead shark sighting.

It happened just after 1:00 p.m. Witnesses reported seeing a shark near the shore.

"The waters in La Jolla are being cleared after an 8 to 10 foot hammerhead shark displayed 'aggressive behavior' after bumping a kayak," Lifeguard Lt. James Gartland said.

The waters are being cleared near La Jolla Cove and Scripps Pier at this time.

This is a developing story. Refresh this page for further updates.

Was going to head out this morning too.

For you locals, I've read most of you launch in the early AM. Is it not ideal to launch any time after the morning? I'm assuming it has something to do with the tide?

Def something about the early morning/end of the day bite. Also, the parking gets tight as each hour passes. Jim
