I'm going to do my best to be on this one - maybe camp out on Punta Azufre to be close to where the halibut fishing on the bay side is, and there is kickass surf fishing on the beach side of that point also. The place I like best is a 5-6 mile paddle from the Old Mill...

WELCOME aboard Jim! Glad to have you on for this trip.
Jruiz, to answer your question, I might do this trip a little different. Am thinking about going down last week in May and staying for 2-3 weeks, letting others come or go as they want. Will post MY actual dates after 1st of year. If I stay for 3 weeks then you guys can plan for whatever length of time YOU want. I am trying to get WADE to join us, and maybe have one of his tournaments down there.

This trip sounds great! It might be fun also to rent a Panga for one of the days and have them take your kayaks offshore putting you guys in the zone. I have seen Skipjack 24s for around 400 a day and could probably carry and tow up to 4 yaks.
Im going to San Quintin this weekend and am staying at the Old Mill doing some Panga Fishing. Ill make sure to post a link to my report for anyone that hasn't been to SQ before. I already have a week planned fishing in Bay of LA in June but if I can somehow manage an extended vacation Id love to come down for a few days with the yaks. |

Hey guys! Im here in San Quintin right now with Tony Marquez owner of Don Eddies Landing and he was telling me he has a vision for a group of kayakers,
He was telling me he wants to take kayaking in San Quintin to the next level. Here's his vision in his own words before I showed him this post. Here's what he wants to do Host Mini Mothership trips to San Martin Island and he will provide bartender and chief at the Island that will cook and serve drinks while the kayakers fish around the Island. Here is his contact information if anyone would like to contact him Tony marqueztony@hotmail.com DonEddies website is www.doneddies.com This is pretty big as I showed up to San Quintin today and met Tony and he started to tell me his vision about accomadating kayakers. I immediately showed him this post as he never heard of BigWatersEdge and he said he is totally on board and would like to do a Big Waters Edge Special for this event. He was a really nice guy and seemed very genuine in helping us kayakers out and turning this into an annual event or tournament. Last edited by SDROB; 10-14-2013 at 08:04 PM. |

Ful-rac, about time you chimed in on these Baja trips, WELCOME aboard! Would San Martin be better for the June trip or for the August trip, or both? The rest of BWE, your thoughts are needed on this NOW, please input early rather then late, as it takes a lot to get 4-10 people to agree on times, dates and just about everything else! If we set up a mothership trip we need to start soon. I know we are months away, but? Baja or Bust, tight lines and bloody gaffs.

It appears Tony will take us to the island, we camp there. We fish full day, spend night on island. Fish next morning then leave for San Q before noon. They can provide all camping gear and food and drinks and do cooking and clean up. Or we can provide all our our gear and do our own cooking. Getting prices soon.

Sounds like an awesome trip...but...how does he plan on getting all the kayaks and gear to the island....It's not going to be an easy feat unless you have a boat the size of the islander to do it, and I don't think he has one of those does he? If he can make it happen wow! Right time of the year...it could be epic!

I want to get a white sea bass if I am down there.
I heard August is the time for that down there. If you set up an August trip I will be for that. |

Buddha if you check the Baja or Bust 2014 posts you will see WBS in San Q trip for August, and that trip might have a side trip to San Martin for an overnighter!
