Newport to Crystal Cove in the morning
Anyone want to get a workout? If I have someone with me then I'm game for trolling macs on the paddle to Crystal Cove and try for some threshers. Any tips? Thanks |

Drifted live mac all the way down to the south end of crystal cove for no love. Think I got raked once. Maybe my bait was too big as the smallest I could catch was still about 8 inches. Should have brought some squid.
Down at crystal cove there was a fish that was jumping every few minutes so I tied on a swim air and next time it jumped I tossed it at it and got a hit and it followed it back to the boat. I saw it real fast before it turned away, it was about 27 inches and I didn't get a positive ID but after looking at pictures I'm pretty sure it was a bonito. Kind of looked like a big mackerel with silver coloration. Did he pull that monster out of the bay? I still have had no luck making squid. I'm still learning how to fish. Gorgeous day for a good paddle, followed it up with a 6 mile trail run. I'm a little wrecked today |
