When is nautical twilight/BMNT for La Jolla Shores now?
There should be an app for that. EDIT: I asked Siri "When WAS nautical twilight in La Jolla?" and got an immediate crisp answer: 5:23am PDT; Sunday, August 23, 2015 Asking "When IS nautical twilight in La Jolla?" diverts to a list of other website blah-blah. SHORTCUT: Nautical twilight is approximately one hour before sunrise (Sunrise was 6:17 am today in La Jolla). Light refraction from city lights, moonlight, and moisture in the air can create these same navigable light conditions at an earlier time. That makes 5am a good target time to be on the beach tightening things down with a flashlight and reviewing our checklist. Personally, I find emerging light at twilight to be a magical and inspirational time to launch the day for any purpose "Meeting in the parking lot at 5:30" .... then waiting for multiple people to scratch their heads and bounce around is a buzz-kill. Especially if I'm the one slowing someone else down
