Hit La Jolla today, parking was easy and I was on the water by 5:30. Paddled out through the gray and made my way to the outside edge of the reserve and found plenty of spanish. Met another yakker named Derek, nice to meet you. At a depth of about 80 feet I slow trolled a flylined spanish straight out and threw a mint colored Iron here and there until I was past the point. Water temp was around 75 deg. As soon as the sun came up, so did the wind and chop, made it almost impossible to read the surface of the water. Decided to cut in toward the kelp and work my way back, so that is what I did. Had one cuda grab my bait, reeled it in and it let go, as I reel my bait to the yak I see it follow behind my horrified and half dead spanish mack. Stuck around for a bit and worked the area near the edge of the kelp for nothing. Wind was still kicking so I ducked behind the point and worked my way back in. Thought maybe the bite was picking up in the last few days, but maybe not. Talked to a few others who caught some calicos but heard nothing of any yellows. Only a few yakkers and a couple cattleboats that kept moving all over the place looking for fish. Off the water by 10:15. Not sure if the wind died after I left but I doubt it.

Good to hear there's bait.

I think this too warm of a water is screwing up bait situation.

Thanks for the report.

There is some fish out there to be taken. "Vito's school" of 12# model YTs is roaming around.

Fearing I'd get skunked for bait, I took my lil' skiff out for a PM shift the other night. Being all crazy about kayaks, we haven't gotten it wet in a while.

Rippin' downhill current, looking all good.

Slow-trolled sardines over the submerged kelp for many bass, barracuda, and some jumbo bonito.

I pulled one 13# YT, got kelped but got it out. Then I lost the other one that buried me deep. Then I found barely a keeper but a keeper WSB - perfect meal for my family. They just came back tonight, made a tasty meal.

From a boat, but I figured some inspirational material for the weekend won't hurt...

Tight lines all!

Ditto for todays report... Windy, difficult to read the water and generally a challenging day on the water.

I did find a small school of YT boiling and chasing bait around the break in the kelp due west of the point but as I got caught up to it and prepared to hammer the heck out of it, the New Seaforth barreled straight over the top of it and then turned around and ran over it again! Then they anchored over it's location, within yak iron range (which is too close for me), pulled in what looked like a 30-35# variety of the right kind and just as quickly roared out of there leaving seals and cuda for the rest of us. They were definitely within iron range, and I was a little miffed at their lack of respect for others on the water but what do ya do? It looked like a limited load today too. At least they did not pull up and start throwing Irons at me!

Met Derek OTW and took some pictures for him... His story... Nice to met you, Derek.

And Thanks for the Encouragement Adi.... alot of us are starting to wonder if there are any fish left out there. You always make it look so easy!

Nice ones Adi!

launched this afternoon and could not find bait off the point to save my life, fought the crappy south wind for a real long time while chucking iron.....decided enough with the wind, headed back in, worked the bottom of they canyon with a candybomber (heavy squid mimic). Got tagged a few cranks off the bottom (~110ft) nice 24# yellow. lots of hot mommies on the beach and a bunch of little zonie tourist kids with a litany of questions including this all time favorite: "Is it real?"

When does school start?

Nice fish Dan!

Thanks again for playing bait barge that evening, Adi.

I found this little scrapper the day before.

All told I went 1 for 5 on YT those two days, two missed bites with mega macs and two lost in kelp on Adi's dines. WFO bite if you had the bait and could get through the trash fish.
